Description: The origin of Bethel was when Jacob was fleeing in great distress from Esau his brother who wanted to kill him. That night when he lay down and slept, he dreamt that there was a ladder going up to heaven with angels ascending and descending on it, and the Lord God spoke to him there. In the morning Jacob realised that the Lord God was in this place and called it Bethel, or the house of God.
