It became a feature of the times under the Law of Moses whereby 11 tribes could support the tribe of Levi to enable them to focus on teaching and worship. It was neglected in the end of the Old Testament times; yet Yahweh told Israel that if they gave generously He would bless them. The Pharisees were practicing tithing in Jesus’ day but in focusing on minutia they were doing it just for pride. Tithing is not required since the Law was taken away in Christ. Our Lord wants 100% not 10%.
