Inauguration of President Trump
As millions of people across the world yesterday watched the televised inauguration of the 45th President of the United States, among other Bible quotes from several speakers, we heard one platform speakers quote a proverb,
“The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” (Proverbs 21:1).
During the election campaign Mr. Trump made many statements on his proposed policies he would enact, if elected to the presidency. He is now in the position he strove so hard to achieve.
Rulers devise their policies, aims and objectives, their short term and long term plans. King Nebuchadnezzar was one such king whose experience is still on record for us today. Nebuchadnezzar had absolute power over his subjects. (Dan.2:21) Nebuchadnezzar’s fearsome reputation was know by a later Babylonian king, King Belshazzar. He literally had power over life or death for his subjects (see Dan.5:18-21). Yet God removed him at a time of God’s appointment.
Rulers come to power and God allow rulers to come to office and removes them when their work is done.
With Bible in hand, what should we looking for in these turbulent times? First the Bible record is written for our learning and is intended to give comfort and hope for the future.
Let’s return to Nebuchadnezzar. The king had a dream and God’s prophet Daniel was inspired by God to explain the significance of the dream to the King.
The interpretation of the dream begins with the head. This was the Babylonian King his kingdom would decline and give way to a sequence of Kingdoms. The succession of kingdoms of Medes and Persians then the Greek empire followed by Rome. This is a matter of historical fact. (See attached chart)

Open in new tab All these Kingdoms have on key fact that binds them together. Their presence impacted on the life of the Jews in God’s land.
The Kingdom that will follow the destruction of the image is represented by the stone, that is the appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ, that suddenly strikes the image on the feet and sweeps away man’s rulership of the earth forever.
What has this to do with the inauguration of President Trump? If President Trump does little or much of what campaigned to do when ascending to the presidency. He has already given European leaders cause for concern over his apparent rejection of NATO. The impact of which already is being expressed by president of the EU to think about the formation of a European Army. As Bible readers this is some we expect to happen. The timetable is in the hand of Almighty God. At some point the European land mass will have an army with which oppose the rulership the Lord Jesus Christ from Jerusalem. (see Rev.17:13-15) This language of the Book of Revelation is symbolic but this chapter makes clear that this was a persecution power and located in a city located on seven hills (Rev.17:4-6). The outcome is clear they opposed followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, but Jesus and his faithful from down the ages will overcome all opposition to Jesus reign righteousness and peace. What a wonderful hope the Bible offers us in this troubled world!
