Description: The Bible describes illnesses very differently from today. Ancient people suffered from the same ailments and diseases, yet were ignorant of their cause. Ailments affecting the brain still perplex most scientists and doctors today. The elusiveness of depression can cause us to judge and impose unrealistic expectations on the sufferers. The prophet Elijah, King David, and the apostle Paul most likely suffered from bouts of depression. We do well to follow our Lord’s example in showing compassion to those suffering depression as it is a disease of the brain and the thinking of that brain
