Description: James, the Lord’s half-brother presides over a council to deal with the first major doctrinal dispute of the new Jerusalem Ecclesia. Certain Jewish believers insisted that the newly converted Gentiles keep the rite of circumcision and the Law of Moses. Disputation and discussion climaxed when Peter addressed the assembly. Then Paul and Barnabas spoke to report the successful conversion of many Gentiles. James concluded the discussion by outlining the plan of God to bring in the Gentiles. As a concession to promote harmony, an edict was passed to placate the Jewish conscience in respect of the all-pervading idolatry and practice of eating blood.
