In the Gospel of Mark, Chapter 4, we read that Jesus taught many things to his disciples by parables, and they were an important part of his doctrine. In this chapter he told them the greatest of all the parables: The Sower. Mark 4v13 And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables? He gave them a detailed explanation of this parable, but he went to speak many other parables, and the gospel writers didn’t record for us all their explanations. The “Sower” parable gives us an outline and basis for interpretation to apply spiritual principles to all the other stories and sayings. Mark 4v33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it. But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples. In his book “Parables of the Messiah”, first published in 1947, Christadelphian writer John Carter sets out to give us well reasoned and detailed expositions of virtually all of Jesus’ sayings, stories and figures of speech as recorded in Matthew, Mark, and Luke – eighty in all. This is a remarkable collection of commentary upon the wisdom and teaching that could only come from above, as spoken by the Son of God, the Word made flesh.
