The Truth about Baptism.

The Greek word for baptism is “baptizo,” which means “to dip, immerse, or submerge.” This word is used throughout the New Testament to describe the baptism of Jesus, the baptism of the disciples, and the baptism of believers.

There is no evidence in the New Testament that baptism was ever performed by sprinkling. In fact, the opposite is true. The New Testament passages that describe baptism always use the word “baptizo,” which means immersion.

For example, in Matthew 3:16, we read that Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River. The word “baptizo” is used here, and it is clear from the context that Jesus was immersed in the water.

In Acts 2:38, we read that Peter told the people on the Day of Pentecost, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Again, the word “baptizo” is used here, and it is clear from the context that baptism involves immersion.

The Bible teaches that baptism is a symbol of our death to sin and our resurrection to new life in Christ. When we are baptized, we are symbolically buried with Christ in his death and raised with him in his resurrection. This can only be done through immersion, because immersion is the only way to completely cover the person being baptized.

Sprinkling does not symbolize death and resurrection. It is simply a symbolic washing. While washing is a good thing, it is not the same thing as baptism.

For these reasons, sprinkling is not a Bible teaching. Baptism is a biblical ordinance that should be performed by immersion.
